This prop­erty in Ongerup could be one of the cheap­est houses for sale in the Great South­ern in re­cent years.

For just $47,500 you can se­cure a prop­erty in Ongerup with two bed­rooms and one bath­room.

Al­bany REIWA chair­man Barry Panizza said the house at 10 La­mont Street was a great op­por­tu­nity for some­one who wanted to live in a small re­gional town.

“The prop­erty looks like a rea­son­able home, the fact that it is in a ru­ral WA town is prob­a­bly what makes it cheap,” Mr Panizza said.

“There are less peo­ple liv­ing in those ar­eas ev­ery year and a lot of the farms in the area are taken over by cor­po­rates so the workers end up liv­ing in houses on farms in­stead of in the small town.

“Ongerup is a great farm­ing com­mu­nity and if you had the want to live there this would be a great buy.”

Ongerup has a pop­u­la­tion of 93 and there are 22 un­oc­cu­pied dwellings in town and a to­tal of 63 pri­vate dwellings.

Ac­cord­ing to REIWA, the me­dian house price for the lower quar­tile is about $40,000 in Ongerup. Ongerup is 150km north-east of Al­bany.

The me­dian house price in Al­bany is $527,000.
