Po­lice probe road death fa­tal­i­ties on week­end

Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing af­ter a Mt Barker trail bike rider was killed in a crash in Ken­de­nup on Satur­day night.

It was a tragic week­end on Great South­ern roads, with two men killed in sep­a­rate in­ci­dents.

On Satur­day at 7.35pm, Mt Barker po­lice were called to a crash in Ken­de­nup.

Gor­don Steven Thom­son, a 36year-old Mt Barker man, suf­fered fa­tal in­juries af­ter crash­ing his trail bike on Lake Matilda Road, Ken­de­nup.

Po­lice said the man lost con­trol of the bike, caus­ing him to crash into a tree and a fence.

Friends at the scene at­tempted to save him, but he died at the scene.

Trib­utes for Mr Thom­son flowed in via so­cial me­dia on the week­end.

Friends and fam­ily said he was one in a mil­lion, a car­ing son and a lov­ing fa­ther.

“Gor­don was much loved by ev­ery­one who knew him,” one read.

“He will be sadly missed by all; it’s a bless­ing he lived his life to the fullest.”

Ma­jor crash in­ves­ti­ga­tors are also prob­ing a fa­tal traf­fic crash that oc­curred about 4.25am on Satur­day on Great South­ern High­way near Clinic Road in Broome­hill Tam­bellup. A white Mit­subishi Magda sedan trav­el­ling south along Great South­ern High­way left the road and hit a tree.

The sole oc­cu­pant, a 49-year-old , died at the scene of the crash.

Wit­nesses who may have seen the Mit­subishi driv­ing in the area be­fore the crash, or the crash it­self, have been asked to con­tact Crime Stop­pers. Both crashes are still be­ing in­ves­ti­gated.
