Phone tower to be built near windfarm

Albany Extra - - News - Saskia Adysti

After being in limbo for more than a year, the Ocean Beach mobile phone tower development is now on track.

As reported by the Albany Advertiser in May, the Ocean beach base station development came to a halt last December as Telstra encountered difficulties in finding suitable locations for the tower.

The Shire of Denmark and the Water Corporation rejected Telstra’s two proposed locations, while several options were rejected by private landholders and State Government Department.

Since then, a new, approved location has been found near Denmark Community Windfarm.

Member for O’Connor Rick Wilson said he was pleased a solution has been found for the Federal Government Mobile Black Spot Program at Ocean Beach.

“When issues arose with the tower at Ocean Beach I was contacted by many concerned residents, emergency service volunteers and other stakeholders who need a reliable signal to operate,” he said.

“It’s been a 12-month campaign with many people involved, but I am very pleased to finally see a result.”

The new base station will provide better mobile coverage to Ocean Beach black-spot locations as well as the popular William Bay tourist area.
