“Never give up”. That was the les­son Al­bany World War II vet­eran Harold Mar­tin’s mother taught him as a child. On Tues­day, he cel­e­brated his 102nd birth­day.

This year, a baby girl at Al­bany Health Cam­pus was the first in­fant born in 2019 in Al­bany.

Wil­low Grace Jack­son was born on Jan­uary 1 at 9.26pm.

Her mum Crys­tal Jack­son was thrilled with her ar­rival.

Wil­low mea­sured 50cm and weighed 3.2kg at birth.

“I am ab­so­lutely thrilled with the safe ar­rival of my daugh­ter and it’s very ex­cit­ing she’s the first baby of the year,” the proud mum said.

“My mum’s birth­day is to­mor­row too, so it was a great gift for her.”

Ms Jack­son thanked the staff at the Al­bany Health Cam­pus.
