Sochi bound for Winter Olympians
TO Russia with Love was the message sent out loud and clear at the gala fundraising dinner held by the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia at Mt Buller during opening weekend celebrations.
VIP guests on the night included Alex ‘Chumpy’ Pullin (snowboard cross) and Anton Grimus (ski cross) who are both expected to be part of Australia’s biggest ever Winter Olympic team.
Pullin took out his second World Title in snowboard cross earlier this year while Grimus placed third on the podium in his competition.
2014 Australian Olympic Winter Team Chef de Mission, Ian Chesterman, also made it clear that Australia was intending to make its presence known at Sochi (Russia) with an expected team of up to 55 athletes competing.
Chesterman said the Australian athletes all now hold world rankings of 50 and below with Alex ‘Chumpy’ Pullin holding the world number one spot in boarder cross after taking out the World Cup for the second time.
