Cana­dian re­sort of­fers pre-sea­son train­ing

SIL­VER STAR Moun­tain Re­sort is set to be the first Cana­dian ski re­sort to of­fer pre sea­son train­ing for Aus­tralian com­pe­ti­tions and for­mer In­ter­schools event man­ager Steve Nel­son has been re­cruited to run the pro­gram from 2015.

The four week pre sea­son train­ing pro­gram will be specif­i­cally de­signed to meet the needs of promis­ing skiers and snow board­ers com­pet­ing in In­ter­school snows­ports com­pe­ti­tions through­out Aus­tralia.

Com­pet­i­tive in­ter­schools ath­letes will have ac­cess to highly skilled coaches and re­li­able snow con­di­tions in the com­ing north­ern win­ter.

Par­tic­i­pants will train on cus­tom built cour­ses and fa­cil­i­ties de­signed to repli­cate those in Aus­tralia and it will be an ex­clu­sive op­por­tu­nity to fur­ther de­velop skills and fine tune tech­niques prior to the be­gin­ning of the rac­ing sea­son in the south­ern hemi­sphere.

Pro­gram man­ager Steve Nel­son has a long history in the ski in­dus­try, con­duct­ing snow sport events and pro­grams since 1998.

Mr Nel­son also event man­aged the Aus­tralian and Vic­to­rian In­ter­schools SnowS­ports Cham­pi­onships for 14 years with the Vic­to­rian In­ter­schools peak­ing at 6700 en­trants dur­ing his ten­ure and Mr Nel­son was the pro­gram man­ager of the In­ter­schools Canada Pro­gram from Aus­tralia since it was in­tro­duced in 2007.

“This is such a thrilling op­por­tu­nity to join the Sil­ver Star Team.

“I look for­ward to re­con­nect­ing with many of the in­ter­schools fam­i­lies and other con­tacts in the ski in­dus­try,” Mr Nel­son said.

“The po­si­tion is an ex­cit­ing and chal­leng­ing role that fits the skills and ex­pe­ri­ence I have in the in­dus­try per­fectly.”
