ISFT/ Interschools partnership report
THE SUBARU Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships greatly value the objectives of the ski for tommy (ISFT) organisation.
ISFT is a not for profit initiative validated by The Alfred Foundation and the Victorian Cancer Council’s SunSmart.
ISFT is directed by friends of the late Thomas Lewis-Mathias who was a national level alpine skier who died from melanoma at the young age of 23 in 2009.
A major objective for the partnership in 2014 is to raise the remaining $5000 of $100,000 for a Confocal Microscope for the VMS.
ISFT are already starting to prepare for the 2014 Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships and are aiming to raise the remaining money for the Confocal Microscope for the VMS.
This piece of equipment allows non invasive ‘optical biopsy’, which will potentially avoid surgical excision at the diagnostic stage.
ISFT are aiming to raise the funds by asking competitors to fundraise prior to the interschools event. This can be done by getting sponsors, such as family and friends for each of their events.
VIC interschools will award certificates to each of the highest fundraisers from each division and the ISFT trophy will be awarded to the school that raises the most funds per student, so that all schools have a chance to win.
For the opening and closing ceremony the event organisers plan to hand out red LED flashing balls to all the competitors and make both the opening and closing a flashing sea of red.
