Cel­e­brat­ing 60 years of Vic­to­rian In­ter­schools

THE 60th Vic­to­rian In­ter­schools Snows­ports Cham­pi­onships will be cel­e­brated this year at Mt Buller. It is an ex­tra­or­di­nary achieve­ment by the schools, the sport, event man­age­ment groups and Mt Buller over this time.

The In­ter­schools be­gan with a hand­ful of Alpine Ski­ing com­peti­tors from two schools in 1958. Ap­prox­i­mately 2800 stu­dents from 180 schools will com­pete in nine dis­ci­plines to­talling ap­prox­i­mately 6000 event en­tries in 2017.

The Subaru Vic­to­rian Cross Coun­try Cham­pi­onships will be con­ducted at Mt Buller on Sun­day, Au­gust 6. The Tirol flat Cross Coun­try (XC) course, which was de­signed in con­junc­tion with Ski and Snow­board Aus­tralia will be open on Satur­day, Au­gust 5 for train­ing. Over 800 event en­tries are ex­pected in this fan­tas­tic event.

The Subaru Vic­to­rian In­ter­school Snows­ports Cham­pi­onships will be hosted at Mt Buller from Au­gust 21 – 27. Stu­dents will com­pete in the dis­ci­plines of Alpine Ski­ing, Moguls, Ski Cross, Snow­board Cross, Snow­board Gi­ant Slalom, Slopestyle Ski­ing and Slopestyle Snow­board.

The top 15 in­di­vid­u­als and top six teams from each event will qual­ify for the Subaru Aus­tralian In­ter­schools Snows­ports Cham­pi­onships.

The Subaru Aus­tralian In­ter­schools Snows­ports Cham­pi­onships as well as the South Aus­tralian Schools Snows­ports Cham­pi­onships will also be hosted at Mt Buller in 2017.

Event man­ager for In­ter­schools at Mt Buller David Speirs, said that ev­ery­one was ex­cited about the up­com­ing sea­son.

“The team that put on these events have been work­ing hard on the plan­ning and are con­tin­u­ally look­ing to im­prove all ar­eas of the event ex­pe­ri­ence in­clud­ing new live tim­ing and scor­ing across all events,” Mr Speirs said.

“Our goal is to stage world class In­ter­schools events that are not only ac­ces­si­ble but de­liver an ex­tra­or­di­nary com­pe­ti­tion ex­pe­ri­ence for all lev­els of par­tic­i­pants, as well as their fam­i­lies and schools.”
