The snow season has kicked off well following early snowfalls, resulting in some mountain resorts opening early. Others are working hard with their snowmaking following continuing investment by all resorts in snowmaking. Now we need the snow gods to deliver a big dump.
Looking ahead, the resorts and alpine towns are ready to welcome winter visitors to ski, snowboard, snow play and compete, as well the entertainment junkies looking to enjoy all that’s on offer. Accommodation to suit every budget on and off mountain is available but it’s best to book early to get your preferred dates.
The ski industry is an important part of the Victorian recreation and regional economies. Last season Victorian resorts attracted 762,000 visitors which represented approximately 1.4milion visitor days. This was a 12% increase in visitors and 5% increase in visitor days compared with the 10-year average between 2006 to 2016. Check out our Resort Guide for resorts information and prices
The 2018 Winter Olympics will be held in Pyongchang in South Korea. After an amazing Northern winter when our Australian snow sports athletes celebrated fantastic success with two World Cup Series Crystal Globes, 35 World Cup and 5 World Championships medals, our hopes are high for Aussie success to improve on eight Olympic medals won in the past three Winter Olympics.
Alpine News along with our sister publication Snowy Mountains Magazine, will cover the Winter Olympics in 2018 with a full wrap of Australia’s athlete’s performances and results.
