Little Red Devil claims Dale’s first cup

- HORSE RACING By JUSTIN JENVEY

ANDREW Dale has captured his first country cup, winning the $ 20,000 Towong Cup with Little Red Devil on Saturday.

The six year-old gelding led all the way in the 1600m feature race, to win by three quarters of a length.

It was Dale’s first win with Little Red Devil after he added the horse to his Albury stable from top trainer Darren Weir last year.

The breakthrough victory couldn’t have come at a better time for both horse and trainer.

Dale said it was a great result for the ownership group after Little Red Devil showed form when running second at Yarra Valley two weeks earlier.

“He put the writing on the wall last start at Yarra Valley where he was beaten in a photo finish,” Dale said.

“He spelled very well over the spring period and as it turned out the 4-6 week break was exactly what he needed after a long preparation with Darren Weir.

“It’s a real pleasing result for the stable winning our first Country Cup.”
