DELWP looking to improve wildlife control
REGIONAL Victorian’s are being encouraged by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) to contribute to a review of the Authority to Control Wildlife (ATCW) system.
An ATCW permits the control of wildlife that is damaging property, farmland or habitat, or posing a risk to the safety of people and as is required to scare, trap, move or destroy wildlife.
The main objective of the review is to improve the balance between human safety and protecting agricultural sectors whilst maintaining an appropriate level of wildlife control.
DELWP has no plans in place to restrict the rehabilitation of overabundant species despite the idea being raised by various community members.
Feedback from the consultation period will be collated and included in a set of recommendations for consideration by the Victorian Government later this year.
The public consultation period closes on June 29.
