TEN State Emergency Service volunteers from Myrtleford and Bright have been recognised for long service and their dedication and commitment to responding to calls for assistance.

Five Myrtleford and five Bright members were honoured at the VICSES North East Region annual awards ceremony in Benalla on May 26.

Myrtleford’s Brooke Sacco received the National Medal for long and diligent service to the community as well as a 15 year service medal while Bright’s Gordon Thomas has now given 40 years to the organisation.

Graham Gales was awarded for 30 years’ service while John Hennessy and Neville West were recognised for half a century worth of dedication.

Valerie McPherson received her 20 year service medal while fellow Myrtleford members Michael Sacco and Matthew Leonard got 15 year honours.

Bright pair Barrett Higman and Sean Jinnette were the other two recognised after notching 10 years in SES.

VICSES is the control agency for flood, storm, earthquake and tsunami and provides road crash rescue and search and rescue with other emergency services including CFA and Victoria Police.

Assistant chief officer Keith O’Brien said each award recipient had demonstrated outstanding commitment and dedicated countless hours to serving their local communities.

“SES volunteers are so highly valued and respected in our communities and essential to the protection of Victoria,” he said

“They perform a wide variety of tasks, including cutting up dangerous trees felled by storms, sandbagging critical community infrastructure to protect them from floods and rescuing people who have been stranded, lost or injured.

“They’re also out in their communities demonstrating and discussing how people can be prepared and resilient long before disaster strikes.

“We would like to take the time to recognise and celebrate our volunteer’s community commitment and the support of their families and employers that enable them to serve the community.” Both available in Queen, King & Super King Plus stay cosy and warm in our quality range of Flannelette sheet sets
