THREE speedy students from the Upper Kiewa Valley have topped their age groups at the Upper Hume Division Cross Country Championships, held two weeks ago in Wodonga.

The zone meeting included about 30 schools from Wodonga, Kiewa and Upper Murray areas.

Tawonga Primary School students Rosie Franzke ( 11 year old girls) and Alec Franzke (10 year old boys), and Carmela Perri ( 10 year old girls) from Mt Beauty Primary School all took first position in their age groups.

At the end of next month the trio will compete at the Regional Championships in Winton to find out if they are good enough for the state competitions.

Tawonga Primary School principal Kim Franzke said that all three had a good chance of success.

“Rosie and Alec ran in the state championships last year, and all three of them are extremely keen and focused,” she said.

“All three run five kilometres on Saturday mornings as part of the Mt Beauty Parkrun, and all of them participate in Little Athletics.”
