Major Project giving Alpine Shire a boost
FEDERAL Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan heard about major projects in Alpine Shire Council at last week’s Indi Local Government Roundtable.
Mayor Ron Janas and chief executive officer Charlie Bird joined other Indi local government mayors and CEOs in Wangaratta to discuss major projects, funding opportunities and mobile black spots.
“While there are still areas that need improved mobile phone coverage, it was wonderful to hear that a new family has moved to Nug Nug and is enjoying reliable telecommuni- cations from the Buffalo River tower,” Ms McGowan said.
“Alpine Shire’s largest capital works program is underway, with $11.2 million to update the Indoor Sports Centre and the library at Myrtleford. Other projects include improvements to the Alpine Events Park in Bright and an upgrade of the Mount Beauty Pool.
“These projects will boost tourism and create jobs. Creating attractions such as a mountain bike trail will bring visitors and help Alpine Shire thrive,” Ms McGowan said.
“Having discussions with local governments together twice a year ensures mayors and CEOs are aware of funding opportunities and the assistance available for their applications. It is a delight to hear about the many projects happening around Indi that have direct benefits for communities.”
Further funding opportunities include the Building Better Regions Fund. Applications are open to organisations with an Australian Business Number (ABN) and can be made at www.business. gov. au/ assistance/ buildingbetter-regions-fund until 15 November 2018.
