ASUS RoG Swift PG248Q

For super high frame-rate gaming.

-

Gaming monitors are all about accepting different compromises for a price, and the ASUS PG248Q takes an interesting approach. It’s not exactly a budget screen, yet uses a flat TN panel and has a pretty typically 1,920 x 1,080 resolution. The secret sauce is in the refresh rate, which runs up to a very high 180Hz.

To make sure there is no tearing, the screen supports Nvidia’s G-Sync, which runs over the full range of frequencies. But the top notch refresh rate means the screen is also compatible with Nvidia 3D Vision 2, for stereoscopic 3D gaming. The panel also has nice low 1ms response time.

In use, the smaller 24inch size helps hide the TN panels lower viewing angles, and colour reproduction and evenness is quite good and bright. Sure, it’s not a stunning picture, but when gaming at +150fps, there isn’t time to stop and check the view. The screen needs a high-end PC to run at high-enough frame rates to make it worthwhile, but looks incredible smooth.

The ASUS PG248Q is equipped with HDMI and DisplayPort 1.2 inputs, as well as a dual USB 3.0 and headphone jacks.

As the RoG model, the screen includes extras such as an on-screen crosshair and FPS counter and an excellent OSD and mini interface joystick. The bezels are also fairly thin, which is ideal for multimonitor setups. The stand is top notch, with height, tilt, swivel and pivot adjustments.
