SteelSeries Rival 100
$49 | WWW.STEELSERIES.COM SteelSeries aims at budget gamers — and hits.
SteelSeries is a brand that is better known for its high-end products, but they’re taking aim at the sub-$50 market with the Rival 100. Basically a cut-back version of the Rival 300, it’s designed to do the job with the minimum of fuss. If you want customisation options left, right and centre, look elsewhere — the Rival 100 is designed to do one thing and one thing only — let you play games with a great feeling sensor.
Despite the price, it’s fully RGB enabled, and even includes things like angle snapping — no sign of mouse mat calibration, though. There’s a total of six buttons plus the scroll wheel, and they’re all in just the right place, within easy reach.
An optical sensor delivers a DPI up to 4,000, but if there is a flaw, it’s that the profiling software can only record two different DPI settings — if you need more, you’re outta luck, unfortunately.
SteelSeries also claims zero hardware acceleration, as well as optimised lift-off distance — to us, it felt just right whilst playing games.
Those with huge hands will definitely want to give this a go before reaching for their wallet, as it’s quite the small critter, but again, this makes it suitable for all types of mouse grips. Just don’t expect it to support your entire hand if you’re a palm gamer, unlike the Mionix.
For fifty bucks, it’s hard to go wrong with this mouse — it has all of the bases covered, plenty of buttons and a great sensor.
