Hegwig, is that you?

- Carmel Sealey

Those bright-orange owl-like eyes glare outwards from the side of your head, meaning you’ll likely be the subject of some rubbernecking if you wear these outdoors.

The cups are nice and large, catering to ears of all shapes and sizes, and the leather-covered memory foam is very comfy on the cups and expanding bridge, which is a lot more sturdy than other models we’ve seen adopting this design. We do wish it’d allow for smaller-sized noggins, though. The hard-plastic design does mean they can creak a little when you move your head around, which annoyingly serves to break the immersion at times.

At 350g, they’re not quite light enough to forget you’re wearing them, but they do remain comfortable for lengthy periods of time.

The detachable unidirectional mic is easy to slot in and adjust, and four buttons on the left cup control the volume, mic and power. Connecting to a device is super simple and they’ll last around 10 hours after a full charge.

In-game (testing with Skyrim and Half-Life 2), they performed well, and the 7.1 virtual surround sound means that explosions sounded meaty, scuttling headcrabs were creepy and arrows whistled nice and sharply past our ears. All genres of music also seem to be quite well balanced with no distinguishable distortion. ASUS’s Sonic Studio software also lets you tweak the sound a bit.

There’s no noisecancelling magic here, and turning up the volume will drain the battery faster, but they’re a good set for their intended PC-bound purpose.
