Razer Naga Epic Chroma

Pretty and wireless, but for MMOs only.

- Carmel Sealey

Back in our June 2016 issue, we did a roundup of gaming mice including this Naga’s older brother, the Naga MMO. Sporting an 8,200dpi laser sensor and 19 buttons, this new ‘Epic Chroma’ variation is a mouse for MMO players, just like its predecessor.

The design hasn’t changed a great deal between iterations — it’s still a large mouse suited for palm grippers. Those 12 buttons consist of the usual left and right clickers, a scroll wheel that clicks in three different ways, two buttons sitting vertically below the scroll wheel and then the 12 thumb buttons. While 12 buttons might sound like a minefield in terms of navigating your thumb to the right one in the middle of a fight, the buttons have actually been designed with their own unique angles, so that it’s easier to find each without looking.

The titular feature of this peripheral is, of course, the RGB lighting. Customised through Razer’s Synapse 2.0 software, you can control the backlighting on the thumb keys and the scroll wheel, as well as set up multiple profiles and manage your key bindings.

Another new feature for the Epic Chroma is its wireless capability. The charging dock doubles as the receiver and works well up to about 3m away, so this mouse can easily be used for couch gaming. But is this the mouse for you? The Naga MMO can be found for about $89. Whether the added wireless versatility and colour customisation is worth the extra $50 will depend on your personal preference. One word of advice, though; don’t buy this from the official site, as you’ll end up paying twice the price.
