ViewSonic XG2703-GS

Built for hardcore gamers.

-

Not everyone wants to sacrifice image quality for an extra gaming edge, so the ViewSonic wizards have put together the the GS. Importantly, the monitor has a 27-inch IPS panel, for wide viewing angles and more accurate colours. It also has a 2,560 x 1,440 resolution and a low 4ms response time. For smoother gaming, it offers a nice high 165Hz refresh rate, and includes G-Sync to avoid any screen tearing.

The understated green trim on the XG2703-GS is a pleasant change from most gaming monitors, and it stands out without being over the top. The stand is excellent, with full height, pivot, tilt and swivel adjustments, and even a fold-out headset hook. It has the usual HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, as well as a 3.5mm audio jack and USB.

After a little tweaking, the XG2703-GS manages impressive image quality, with very even colours — even when viewed off-angle. Contrast and backlight uniformity are quite good, though there is a tiny amount of light bleed visible in the corners. Like any G-Sync monitor, it does need a powerful Nvidia GPU to make use of the high refresh rate, but is amazingly smooth and free of any tearing or stutter. While the 4ms response time is higher than an TN panel, we couldn’t see any ghosting or blur.

The XG2703-GS includes a range of game modes, but it’s well worth customising yourself through the indepth OSD. The screen also has a dark boost function, to make it easier to see enemies in the shadows, without overexposing bright areas.

Verdict

A great bundle of features for those who want image quality and ultra-fast Nvidia gaming.
