AMOUNT OF LI-ION BATTERY WASTE AUSTRALIA PRODUCES EACH YEAR A report from the CSIRO has revealed that Australia produces 3,300 tonnes of lithiumion battery waste annually, and with this number growing roughly 20% year-on-year, it’s expected to hit 100,000 tonnes by 2036. Unfortunately, only 2% of this waste is currently being properly recycled, leading the CSIRO to push for improved education and processes to be put in place. As much as 95% of the materials used in a lithium-ion battery can be recycled into new batteries or related fields, if the process is undertaken correctly.
