While not designed for long-form writing, Drafts 5 is capable of that. It’s also good for to-do lists, quick thoughts, or jotting down ideas.

Drafts is now free, and has an updated editor, tagging, Siri integration, tappable task check marks and improvements to the arrange mode, which lets you reorganise blocks of text using drag and drop. A Pro subscription (US$1.99 monthly or US$19.99 annually) unlocks advanced features like themes, custom icons, editing actions and more.

Our favourite new feature has to be tags; rather than organise content by folders, Drafts 5 lets you add custom tags to notes, making it a snap to find something. (You can also do this in bulk by selecting multiple notes.)

Drafts 5 integrates well with SiriKit; in other apps Siri stops listening after about 45 seconds, but the developer has circumvented this, so you can dictate for minutes at a time.

Considering all the potential input methods, it’s surprising to find there’s no direct import, particularly from Apple Notes, but this is a small quibble, since notes can easily be shared without styling.
