Power up searches with Man­age shared fold­ers

TURN ON FILE SHAR­ING

If you want to share files from your Mac, you first need to go to the Shar­ing pane in Sys­tem Pref­er­ences and turn on File Shar­ing. This shows you what fold­ers you’re shar­ing and with whom, and what ac­cess they have to your shared fold­ers.

USERS & GROUPS

If you want to make fur­ther tweaks to the shared folder set­tings, go to Users & Groups in Sys­tem Pref­er­ences. Ex­pand the Groups folder on the left-hand side to see a list of the groups that your Mac is cur­rently part of. Select one of them.

SET MEM­BER­SHIP AC­CESS

The Mem­ber­ship sec­tion al­lows you to choose which user ac­counts (on your Mac) and groups (that you’re con­nected to) can ac­cess your shared fold­ers. Click the tick­boxes to al­low or re­strict ac­cess for each user and group.
