UK’s NHS to launch a clinic for gaming addiction
CENTRE OF INTERNET DISORDERS TO BE A “LIFE-CHANGER”.
In the wake of the World Health Organization’s official classification of gaming disorder as a mental health condition, a London hospital is opening a clinic dedicated to tackling gaming addiction. While the clinic’s founder doubts this will result in “an epidemic” of people requiring treatment, she does believe it will be a “lifechanger” for many struggling with the disorder. “I feel a moral duty on behalf of the NHS to provide the evidencebased treatment these young people and their families need”, she said, going on to say that the centre will expand to also include “other internet compulsions […] when funding is available.”
