GOODBYE MICROSOFT OFFICE?
Recently my organisation made the switch from Microsoft Office to Google for everything. I must say that while initially concerned, my fears have been put to rest. Previously, I’d pigeonholed Google Docs and Sheets as simpler, less capable versions of Word and Excel. I was pleasantly reassured to discover that each of those apps offer depth belying initial impressions. I’m hardly a power-user, but there’s not a thing Office offers that I don’t have with Google. I’ve taken quite a shine, too, to Gmail — in particular its spectacular convenience when using it on my smartphone when I’m out on the road.
I can’t help but wonder how long Microsoft can keep making money from Office. I was disappointed when they switched to having an annual subscription instead of buying it outright — a last gasp from the desperate, perhaps?
