The Australian consumer watchdog has released it latest findings on the state of the NBN and has revealed that just under half of total NBN users have shifted to plans with speeds of at least 50Mbps. Out of a total of 4.5 million NBN customers, 2.2 million are currently on high-speed broadband, with NBN50 taking out the lion’s share.

The ACCC has also revealed that bandwidth per household has also increased, indicating telcos are now purchasing more NBN capacity (CVC) than before. However, the data on the increased bandwidth comes ahead of a discount scheme NBN Co is about to end, which could result in changes in congestion levels on the network.

The watchdog has also offered an insight into the best NBN plans currently available to customers, and which telco has the best speed performance. TPG came out on top in every respect. According to data collected from 790 speed tests across the country, TPG has the best download (88.4% of maximum speeds) and upload speed (89.1%).
