Telstra commits to connecting Australia’s wide open spaces to 5G
It’s a challenging country to connect.
While 5G is fast, the signal isn’t far-reaching. For a country like Australia, with populations in remote communities, that would mean spotty mobile coverage. Telstra boss Andy Penn, however, is “confident” that the final 5G standard will allow the reach of individual mobile towers to be extended from 35km to 200km. While this would mean better coverage in the bush, there are no guarantees that Telstra’s 5G network will be as good as its current 4G footprint. The telco is currently testing 5G in some regional areas, but has integrated the new tech with its 4G setup.
