The Guardian’s new app is designed to streamline the way you access your news, and while it’s not likely to fully replace the site or the regular app, it does a good job of keeping you informed on what’s happening that day. It divides news up between a few categories – Top Stories, National, World, Financial, Journal, Culture, Life and Sport, plus the crosswords – and presents the most important stories of the day. The Guardian’s a go-to news source for me, and I can see myself opening this app once a day to catch up on the top stories, even though it’s intentionally cutback in other areas – there’s no search function, for instance, or podcasts, or really anything beyond lists of headlines and stories. But, ultimately, that’s a good thing – the app’s sense of focus makes it feel closer to picking up a daily newspaper and flicking over the most important stories. It’s great if you just want to be kept informed without doing a deep dive into months of depressing articles about Trump.
