Amazon PR confirms existence of fictional automated fulfilment centres
OFFICIAL RESPONSE BLUNDERS BY ACKNOWLEDGING CONTENTS OF INVENTED SATIRICAL OP-ED.
The New York Times is running a collection of fictional opinion pieces titled Op-Eds from the Future, the most recent of which is a piece titled “Amazon’s First Fully Automated Factory Is Anything But”. While this story about how Amazon’s first autonomous-factory is not in any way true, another tech journalist colleague reached out to Amazon’s PR for comment and, for some inexplicable reason, Amazon’s PR responded. In addition to appearing to confirm the existence of the facility by stating that “We [Amazon] consistently pilot new technologies”, it then defended the non-autonomous autonomous-facility by claiming that it exists to increase safety, ‘speed up delivery times’ and add ‘efficiencies’.
