Electronic Arts announced FIFA
21 at its EA Play showcase in mid-June, and it looked impressive: vague improvements such as improved “player humanisation” and a “deferred lighting system” seemed to suggest that the glacially iterative soccer game might receive a dramatic facelift. But if that proves to be true, PC owners will not benefit from the “next-gen” visual upgrades in the same way owners of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will.
Following the announcement an FAQ appeared for the game, which seemed to confirm that PC players will be stuck with the last-gen version of FIFA. In a statement sent to APC, EA confirmed it directly. “The PC version will be the same experience as the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game,” the statement said, “so technically yes, it won’t be optimised with any features specific to Xbox Series X or PS5.”
