BlueHarvest
Smarter shared drive.
One of our favourite things about Mac developers is that if something annoys you, a developer feels your pain too and will create an app to soothe it.
With BlueHarvest, the pain is all the stuff your Mac (or a Windows PC) leaves on external drives – vital for the OS but a pain if you’re sharing content with your in-car audio or your smart TV, or if you work with PCs as well as Macs.
The BlueHarvest app sits in your menu bar and can work automatically on any storage device you connect, or you can set it to prompt you for action. It then analyses the drive and removes metadata such as ._ files, .DS_ Store files and . Trashes (and, if it’s been on a Windows PC, Thumbs.db and Desktop.ini).
The app works brilliantly. No more scrolling through a full suite of ._ files before we can listen to our Lana Del Rey AACs in the car; no more trying to work out which file is the video clip and which one is the Apple duplicate on our Smart TV.
BlueHarvest is quick, easy to use, has a tiny footprint, and solves something that annoys us almost every day. Metadata be gone!
An elegant solution to an annoying problem.
