One third of in-development games affected by pandemic
In a survey conducted by the Game Developers Conference, 33 percent of surveyed developers revealed that the project they’re working on has been delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The reasons are fairly obvious: game studios the world over have been transitioning to a work from home model, which has its teething problems. According to the survey, 70 percent of developers are now working from home.
Reasons cited for the detrimental effect of working from home include access to necessary hardware, which could include expensive console development kits. Given that many studios may be working on games for the next generation of consoles, and given how highly sensitive access to those dev kits are, it’s understandable. Also cited was “ambient stress” which is something we’re all probably feeling: general loss of productivity due to how scary the circumstances are.
