In your view has AMD made any headway on increasing its market share in the laptop segment? What’s holding it back?

JAIMIE, LEADER COMPUTERS:

“We have seen a marked increase in AMD offerings across our tier one brands including Lenovo, Asus and to a lesser extent HP. It’s an impressive turnaround for AMD compared to two years ago; they have definitely earned consumer confidence. The performance versus cost ratio is still strongly in their favour, especially when you take into account the integrated Vega graphics available in some models, which hands the Intel HD offering its own entrails!”

RICHARD, AFTERSHOCK PC:

“At the current point in time, I believe AMD could and should be making huge inroads into the laptop market. The main thing holding them back at the moment seems to be supply. Stock continues to be delayed and in very short supply in Australia (from what we are seeing anyway). As such, it is really just going to be a matter of time to see how they are adopted by consumers, but my feeling is that they are going to be very big based on the number of requests we get for them.”
