Fortnite goes next-gen with ray-tracing

A new Nvidia patch adds RTX and DLSS tech.

-

Ray-tracing makes a remarkable difference when applied to age worn titles: take Minecraft for example, which is truly impressive. Now Nvidia and Epic Games have teamed up to implement ray-tracing and DLSS tech in Fortnite. The patch applied ray-traced reflections, global illumination and more to the game’s core battle royale experience, as well as to its creative and ‘Save the World’ modes.

If the patch doesn’t make immediate sense after booting it up, Nvidia has created its own Fortnite map dedicated to showcasing the new tech – much as it did with Minecraft. The ‘RTX Treasure Run’ map is basically an interactive museum exploring the potential of ray-tracing in the popular free-to-play shooter, and you can access it completely free providing you own an RTX card that can actually run it.
