No Man’s Sky studio hints at major new project
HOW DOES ONE FOLLOW UP A UNIVERSE SIMULATOR? No Man’s Sky
was a hugely ambitious project for UK-based Hello Games: it offered a virtually infinite universe to explore, and since its initial release in 2016 it has evolved from a slightly boring survival game into something more akin to Minecraft. In September, Hello Games released its first new project since No Man’s Sky in the form of The Last Campfire – a charming, relaxing and comparatively easy-to-develop puzzle adventure.
But that’s not how the studio plans to proceed into the future. In an interview with Polygon last month, studio head Sean Murray promised that planning has commenced on another “huge, ambitious game like No Man’s Sky.” How a small independent studio follows up delivering a whole virtual universe, will be interesting to see.
