Rockstar goes for Ruffian
Crackdown 2 studio acquired by Take Two Interactive; renamed Rockstar Dundee.
Rockstar Games, the behemoth developer behind the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series, has purchased Ruffian Games – the studio responsible for Crackdown 2. Founded in 2008, the British studio has been responsible for various support roles on external projects, including help on the multiplayer component of Crackdown 3. Other titles include RADtv, Kinect Playfit and Fragmental.
Following the acquisition, Ruffian Games is now known as Rockstar Dundee, named after the town it is based in. Though Rockstar Games is likely developing the next instalment in the Grand Theft Auto series, there’s every possibility that the acquisition means Ruffian Games will now work on multiplayer expansions for either Grand Theft Auto Online or Red Dead Online.
