Therapy with Dr Albert Krueger
Mind games.
You’ve been thrown into therapy, without your consent, and with no idea how you ended up there. Rather than talking out your issues (although there is a tiny bit of that), Dr Krueger instead sets you a series of bizarre tasks: a game of ball and cups, an ink blot test that gets a little disturbing, and even a basic maths quiz. There are multiple endings based on your actions, and each offers a tiny morsel of story and worldbuilding.
For a visual novel, this is surprisingly stingy with its narrative: we’re given very little information about the environment or either character. While I think it’s smart to leave your readers wanting more, I could have done with a tad more world or character development to keep me engaged.
I did enjoy my first playthrough of this mysterious and amusing game, but not enough changed when I was invited to play it again. It felt like I was simply following a script, to unlock an ending I wasn’t particularly invested in. TOM SYKES
A simplistic battle of wits.
