Riverside Green South Bank Parklands by Hassell

Built on the land of the Turrbal and Jagera peoples South Brisbane, Queensland

Jury citation Riverside Green South Bank Parklands forms part of a larger network of public spaces that interconnect to embrace the city and the river. During our visit to the site, a diversity of uses was on display, with people lounging about, cooking, gathering for large events and finding intimate moments together.

The architecture acts as a curated backdrop to allow public activities to occur, rituals to unfold and stories to evolve. Shade, shelter, tiered platforms, relaxed seating and subtle elements extend beyond the immediate area, harmoniously binding people together in shared and individual activities.

Hassell is to be congratulated on creating a place that generously connects people with each other as well as with a broader sense of place.
