Artist, writer and publisher, Gavin Fry carries a 50-year professional career in curatorial management in museums, galleries and educational institutions – an undertaking that urged him to put his painting on hold for four decades. Once retired, Fry decided it was time to pick up where he left off in 1974, and handto-brush he re-ignited his creative output.
Through text and illustration ‘Home Port’ reveals what inspires Fry’s practice and his connection with the places and subjects that he paints. From industrial horizons to ships in moonlit harbours and built Newcastle landscapes the artist conveys a colourful vision of his surroundings. The series of works include those, which feature a dimensional striped design and others presented in a more simplified style.
