Art Almanac - - Art In Australia -

Bendigo Art Gallery Until 10 February, 2019

The life and work of Christian Waller (18941954), Australian printmaker of the Art Deco era and her niece, ceramic artist Klytie Pate (1912-2010) intertwine in this exhibition. The art of Waller is characterised by complex symbolism, combining ancient classical and literary subjects alongside occult motifs. Through her aunt’s teachings in design and subject, Pate mastered her practice to become one of Australia’s foremost studio potters of the 20th century, known for unusual glazes and extensive incising, piercing and ornamentation of earthenware pottery.
