For Cotton On’s Global Service Centre in Geelong, Victoria, PTID’S design concept structures the workspace around an arrival hub and a central, agile “street” connecting three “neighbourhoods,” all flooded with natural light. An innovative reuse and extension features tilt panel and timber trusses, contrasted with red brick and black steel. The company’s brand is expressed throughout the strategy, structure and styling of the project. The new building reflects a sense of symmetry and its original warehouse proportion, with a mezzanine inserted to one half of the floor plate. PTID has created an environment that supports future cultural norms, while recognizing that the current practice is very desk bound. The new spatial strategy maximizes the efficiency of desk work, and promotes team collaboration and cross-company connectivity. A twenty-metre rule was used in the planning to ensure all staff had proximity to support and collaborative breakout spaces.
