Retreat collection by Tsar Carpets

The Retreat Collection of Axminster Carpets from Tsar Carpets was spawned when Melbourne-based head designer Ross Cleland retreated to the country with his family. Inspired by the river flowing by the house, he conceived of a series of seven soothing and biophilic designs. The collection started out as an investigation of fluid mechanics in the art studio – a sort of trial-and-error experiment with inks on paper and air propulsion from a hand dryer. The free-flowing patterns are realized in cool blues and grays, and in more vibrant colours such as red, yellow, purple, and green. By using interchangeable colours, each design can take on a new meaning and purpose, responsive to the setting it is placed in.
