Caroline Chisholm Junior Girls Science Department by Branch Studio Architects
► Branch Studio Architects looked into the microscope to find inspiration for its design of a new science department for Caroline Chisholm Catholic College in Melbourne’s north-west. The architects applied the concept of cell division – mitosis – to the arrangement of spaces, including two science labs. The two labs bisected by the staff areas represent the telophase – the final stage of mitotic cell division, when the cell has almost completely divided, creating two identical copies of itself. A microbic image of the phase is printed on the inside of bubble-like panels that are repeated across the ceiling.
