HAVN store by James Carey

-

▼ The brief for HAVN’S new store on Gertrude Street in Melbourne’s Fitzroy called for a design that would pay homage to the site’s history, minimally intervene, focus on HAVN’S products – globally sourced specialty items for active, conscious lifestyles – and offer modular components flexible enough for future installations. Consultants James Clezy and James Carey helped on the store’s design.

Initiated by an original Atelier Alinéa Unistandard table, the design incorporates modern Japanese and Scandinavian influences. A monumental brushed stainless steel point-of-sale sits front and centre; shelves in the same material hug the perimeter. Full-height Kvadrat curtains and punches of custom American oak joinery by Matthew Calvitto add depth and interest. So do bespoke lighting by Solstice and the facade’s restored original leadlight, both of which are amplified by mirrored rear walls. The cumulative effect of these choices is one of belonging.
