BUDDHIST MONKS AND NUNS
97% of Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture’s population are Tibetan who believe in Tibetan Buddhism. Here, there are some 25,000 Buddhist monks and nuns, with approximately 300 incarnate lamas among them. About 3 to 5% of the population are monastic, with a strikingly higher number of them in Nangchen County, where monks and nuns make up between 12% and 20% of the community.
