The first day of the 10th month of the Islamic calendar marks the end of the fasting period (Ramadan) — a month of abstinence (from dawn to dusk each day) from eating, drinking, smoking and indulgences that detract one from goals of the fast. At this joyous time, it is customary for Muslims to attend morning mosque prayers, visit relatives, decorate their houses and buy new clothes.
