The first phone with a fingerprint sensor is Hewlett-Packards iPaq PPC 5500 personal digital assistant, which was introduced back in 2003. The first phone to use an in-display fingerprint sensor is Vivos X20 Plus UD annouced in January 2018. The revolutionary sensor, FS9500 Clear ID, is manufactured by Synaptics, which specialises in touch, display and biometrics products. It was collaborating with Samsung on this technology in 2016 but implementation problems forced the latter to place the fingerprint sensor on the rear of its 2017 flgships.
