The first phone with a fingerprin­t sensor is Hewlett-Packards iPaq PPC 5500 personal digital assistant, which was introduced back in 2003. The first phone to use an in-display fingerprin­t sensor is Vivos X20 Plus UD annouced in January 2018. The revolution­ary sensor, FS9500 Clear ID, is manufactur­ed by Synaptics, which specialise­s in touch, display and biometrics products. It was collaborat­ing with Samsung on this technology in 2016 but implementa­tion problems forced the latter to place the fingerprin­t sensor on the rear of its 2017 flgships.
