Besides the standard data and talk time, tourists can also enjoy discounts and promotions offered at major Malaysian malls by presenting their Hotlink Tourist SIM at their shops (after applying for a tourist reward card at their concierges). A host of other prepaid options are also available.

Cost

You should be able to get a prepaid card (valid for a month) with 3GB of data and 300 minutes of local talk time for 3040 ringgit (USD7.409.80). Some carriers offer data that is designated for certain social media apps. The plans come with up to 25GB of data and some credit for between 20 and 50 ringgit (USD4.9012.30). Tune Talk for example sells a valid-for-seven-days SIM card with 15GB data and 5 ringgit (USD1.20) credit for calls and SMS for 25 ringgit (USD6.10).

Purchase

Buy them at the countrys airports, bus stations, telco shops and 7-Eleven shops. Passports are required for purchase.

Topping up

You can top up at carrier stores and convenienc­e stores.
