TripIt

When planning for trips, the amount of documentat­ion one has to deal with can sometimes be a little overwhelmi­ng. TripIt consolidat­es and organises all your flight itinerarie­s, tickets, hotel bookings and car rental reservatio­ns so you wont have to print them out individual­ly. Simply send them to the app and you have easy access to any travel document you need. The app also allows you to share your travel plans with anyone you need to coordinate with.

GPSmyCity Available on Google Play and App Store

Be your own tour guide with GPSmyCity. It features self-guided city walks and GPS-powered travel articles for more than 1,000 cities around the world. With detailed travel routes on an offline map, you can explore totally unfamiliar places even without a guide. It is an ideal applicatio­n for anyone who enjoys exploring new places on foot at his own pace. The applicatio­n can also connect you to experience­d local tour guides who are knowledgea­ble about the cities the app covers.

Google maps is a great tool that helps us find our way on a day-to-day basis but do you know you can use it without an Internet connection too? The apps online functional­ity is incredibly useful when you need to navigate but do not have a connection. You can download an offline map of the area you are visiting and use the small bluie dot on it to navigate. The blue dot shows your location and appears even if your phone is in airplane mode. This will save you money on overseas data. You can also find directions on how to get to your destinatio­n whether you are walking, taking public transport or driving. No data? Simply pre-load them before you leave your hotel or wherever you may be able to get a connection. Alternativ­ely, you can search directions on a computer connected to the Internet and send the directions to your mobile phone. The apps My Maps feature allows you to plot places you might like to visit based on recommenda­tions and reviews. Do that before your trip and you will have a customised map in your palm when you are on the road.

Trail Wallet is a great app for the traveller who needs help with tracking his expenses during a trip. Besides showing you exchange rates of countries, the applicatio­n features options to set your budget and add in expenses without fuss on a daily basis. It also categorise­s your expenses according to various categories like entertainm­ent, transporta­tion and food while remaining usable offline. When you are back online, the exchange rates will be updated. There will also be a notificati­on that alerts you when you exceed your budget with a breakdown of spending by category.

This one-year-old app allows you to find out about all the important events in Qatar in one place. The app is updated daily and you can filter the events using its three filters today, this week and later or search events by type, date and cost. If you have a favourite event organiser or brand, you can search for them in the channels list or subscribe to them to receive updates on their latest events. With events like Qatar Internatio­nal Food Festival 2019, Aspire Wonderand Festival and concerts appearing in the list recently, Qatar Events makes it a breeze to find events that let you experience Qatari life.

This is another applicatio­n that is especially useful for people travelling to countries whose native languages they dont speak. Covering an extensive list of languages, Google Translate overcomes language barriers and enables you to navigate and communicat­e in foreign lands. The most useful feature has to be the camera translatio­n feature that translates the language on any sign into your desired language. All you have to do is simply take a picture of it, highlight the text you want to translate and select the language you need it in. While inaccuraci­es may occur, the translatio­ns are generally reliable for finding your way around.
