CAMBODIA

-

Cambodia has strong network coverage around Phnom Penh and other main cities and towns but it could be hard to find a signal in other areas. You can rely on any of the carriers to provide talk time and data at great prices. Even through the Cambodian riel is the official currency, most stores only transact in US dollars.

Main carriers in the country

• Metfone

• Cellcard

• Smart

• Qb

Cost

Cambodia has one of the cheapest prepaid cards and it is probably more economical to get one that comes with bundled services rather than buy them separately. USD4.50 can get you a 3GB of data and over 200 minutes of onnet calls that are valid for 30 days. Data junkies will be delighted to know that Cellcard offers a SIM card with 80GB of data valid for 30 days for just USD8. Cellcards tourist SIM pack offers USD50 for on-net calls and SMS and 5GB of data a day (both valid for 7 days) for USD6.

Purchase

SIM cards can be bought from approved dealers upon showing your passport and visa stamp. SIM cards also need to be registered or they will deactivated within seven days.

Topping up

Top-ups can be done manually at carrier stores and convenience stores or using scratchcards purchased from these places. Top-up values range from USD1 to USD50.
