Botero’s creation of contrasting fascination The single overriding feature that is characteristic of Botero’s work, the one motif that remains despite the varied themes and treatments throughout the artist’s long and distinguished career, is that of his shapely figures. It is a commonality that persists not just in his depictions of human figures, but in his portrayals of inanimate objects as well. It is this attribute that has given us such work as his curvaceous reinterpretation of the Mona Lisa as well as the succulent roundedness of fruits in his still life portraits.
